February 2008 Issue

Many people feel stuck in February. It comes in various forms—winter blues, work blues, food blues, relationship blues or some combination. People crave more warmth, love and appreciation this time of year.

Intimate relationships nourish body, mind and spirit. They warm the soul and soften the heart.

The quality of these relationships says a lot about the quality of our lives and our health. So if you are feeling stuck, one of the best cures is to strengthen the relationships you have in your life, and maybe let go of the ones that aren’t fulfilling you.

Look at your relationships in the same way you look at your wardrobe. You probably keep many clothes hanging in your closet that you haven’t worn in years. Maybe you are hoping they will come back in style, or maybe they don’t quite fit, but you keep them in the back for sentimental reasons.

It’s the same with relationships. If you think of everyone you know, chances are, you will find a few people from your past that don’t belong in your present. And maybe there are people you would like to know better.

So please try a new approach this month. Think of who you would really love to spend more time with and reach out to them and make it happen. And look and see who you are ready to let go of and then do that too.

Tell everyone special in your life how much you love and appreciate them.

Recipe: Brown Rice and Raisin Pudding

Brown rice transforms into a sweet treat with the help of cinnamon, nutmeg and raisins in this recipe. One of the ingredients, kuzu, a ground powder made from the white root of a Japanese plant, gives this dessert a creamy texture. It is also incredibly alkaline, soothes stomach aches and helps relieve colds and flu.

Affirmation of the Month

When I am authentic to my true self, my heart opens and is receptive to love.

Quote of the Month

Keep love in your heart. A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead. The consciousness of loving and being loved brings a warmth and richness to life that nothing else can bring.
