Video: Can Art Make Us Healthier?

We all enjoy art for its aesthetic and spiritual beauty, but what if painting, music, and dance actually had the power to heal? At Integrative Nutrition, we say that there's more to health than the food you eat. It's your career, relationships, spirituality, and physical activity - what we call primary food - that truly nourishes you.

Is creative expression what's missing from your healthy lifestyle? Watch the video below to find out!

Building Your Business One Client at a Time

While I was in the Health Coach Training Program, I remember the idea of signing up my first client being bit daunting. Okay, who am I kidding – it was totally overwhelming to me.

Other than an initial interview for my teaching job many years earlier, I hadn’t needed to “sell” myself or anything else, for that matter.  I had no clue about how to market myself and sign up that first client.

This is why I was so grateful that a valuable part of Integrative Nutrition’s curriculum is business and marketing. The tools and strategies I learned were what helped me actually get myself out into the real world and help people as a Health Coach.

But knowing and doing are two different things. Getting started as a Health Coach meant I needed to take action and use the tools and strategies I learned in the program. It didn’t always feel easy, but because of the way the material was presented in the context of the whole program, it all felt doable (well, most days anyway.)

For a Long Life, Don't Drink This

It’s been clear for a while that sugar-filled sodas are a major contributor to the obesity epidemic sweeping America. But now it seems like they may be diminishing our lifespans just as they expand our waistlines.

A new study from the University of California San Francisco showed that drinking sugary drinks is associated with cell aging, which in turn reduces longevity. The reason for this result comes down to tiny units of DNA called telomeres. The length and quality of telomeres, which cap the ends of chromosomes in cells, are a determining factor in lifespan—and it looks like a can of Pepsi with lunch will snip away at telomeres’ length at an alarming rate.

Grad Guest Post: Healthy Cooking with Super Food Cards

Greeting from two Integrative Nutrition graduates!  We’re Katherine Sumner, class of 2008, and Casey Seidenberg, class of 2009.

Upon graduation, we created Nourish Schools to help make healthy cooking easier for everyone. Through our company, we’ve consulted at schools and organizations, given talks across the East Coast, written a regular column in the Washington Post, worked with hundreds of individuals, and appeared on TV and radio.

Through our work, people told us again and again that healthy cooking is hard. Cookbooks are not user-friendly enough, the Internet is overwhelming, and who has the energy to cook after a long day at work?

Ask a Health Coach: What If I Don't Know the Answer to a Client's Question?

For this week's Ask A Health Coach column, we decided to dig into one of the questions that came up in our Facebook student groups. This question comes from Isaline, who wrote: What if a client asks us a question we don't have the answer to?

Good question, Isaline.

I remember fearing this very thing when I first started out as a Health Coach. Thankfully, during Integrative Nutrition's Health Coach Training program, Joshua shares strategies for overcoming this fear and assuring your clients that while you may not know the answer in that moment, you will help them find it.

Sharon’s Take: How to Tell if You’re on the Wrong Career Path

There’s a lot that goes into our decisions about what career to pursue. Sometimes it’s finances, or family expectations, or a fluke job opportunity—and sometimes we truly follow our dreams. But even in those rare cases, there can come a day when the passion that once got you out of bed in the morning begins to weigh you down instead.

I know, I’ve been there.

After studying theater in college, I moved to New York City to pursue a career as an actress. Before long, I’d gone on tour in a children’s play and was performing a one-woman cabaret. It was my supposed dream, and yet I wasn’t happy.

How Writing A Book Boosted My Career—And Can Do the Same for Yours

One of the things that people don't realize about Integrative Nutrition's Health Coach Training Program is that it prepares you to do so many more things besides become a Health Coach.

Upon graduating from Integrative Nutrition, I realized that being a practicing Health Coach wasn’t what I wanted. It wasn’t that I’d lost my passion for health and nutrition, it was just that I wasn’t channeling that passion in the right way for me. My instincts were telling me that I needed to write a book and speak internationally.

However, I had absolutely NO idea how I was going to do that. In fact, it seemed impossible. I knew tons about health and nutrition, but little to nothing about the book publishing and speaking industry.
