IIN Fall Conference Highlights

Integrative Nutrition conferences are an incredible opportunity for students and graduates of the Health Coach Training Program to come together, hear from inspiring speakers, and connect with the mission of our school.

While Integrative Nutrition offers a primarily online education, we recognize the importance of having a strong community and relish these amazing weekends where Health Coaches walk away transformed and united in a common goal: to make the world a healthier, happier place.

Watch the video below to see highlights from our recent conference. We hope you can join us at the next one!

Why I Chose Integrative Nutrition

I get asked all the time why I picked the Institute for Integrative Nutrition when I was searching for a nutrition school to attend. For me, there were many layers to my decision that I’d love to share with you, but ultimately the things that attracted me to the program may be different than the things that inspire you to attend, so I recommend chatting with a member of the admissions team so they can personalize the discussion to your goals and help you decide if Integrative Nutrition is the right fit for you, too.

VIDEO: Dr. Harville Hendrix on Relationships

The health of our relationships can be an overlooked aspect of our overall well-being, yet they play a major role in how we feel about ourselves and others, and how we move through life.

In this interview, Dr. Harville Hendrix, IIN speaker and couples therapist with over 40 years of experience, talks about the importance of having safety in our relationships so that our hunger for connection is satisfied and we do not seek to fulfill it elsewhere.

Watch the video below for a valuable perspective on how positive relationships contribute to health and healing. Do you find this to be true in your life? Share in the comments below!

The Irony of Creating a Successful Health Coaching Business

In any industry, creating a successful business takes hard work. Health coaching is no exception.

I often I meet Health Coaches who are stress eating chocolate kale chips with one hand and furiously trying to learn Pinterest with the other. They worry about closing the deal and if they should rent office space. Their home life is a bit of a mess. They may have lost weight as part of their health journey, but it’s slowly creeping back.

Video: Can Art Make Us Healthier?

We all enjoy art for its aesthetic and spiritual beauty, but what if painting, music, and dance actually had the power to heal? At Integrative Nutrition, we say that there's more to health than the food you eat. It's your career, relationships, spirituality, and physical activity - what we call primary food - that truly nourishes you.

Is creative expression what's missing from your healthy lifestyle? Watch the video below to find out!

Building Your Business One Client at a Time

While I was in the Health Coach Training Program, I remember the idea of signing up my first client being bit daunting. Okay, who am I kidding – it was totally overwhelming to me.

Other than an initial interview for my teaching job many years earlier, I hadn’t needed to “sell” myself or anything else, for that matter.  I had no clue about how to market myself and sign up that first client.

This is why I was so grateful that a valuable part of Integrative Nutrition’s curriculum is business and marketing. The tools and strategies I learned were what helped me actually get myself out into the real world and help people as a Health Coach.

But knowing and doing are two different things. Getting started as a Health Coach meant I needed to take action and use the tools and strategies I learned in the program. It didn’t always feel easy, but because of the way the material was presented in the context of the whole program, it all felt doable (well, most days anyway.)

For a Long Life, Don't Drink This

It’s been clear for a while that sugar-filled sodas are a major contributor to the obesity epidemic sweeping America. But now it seems like they may be diminishing our lifespans just as they expand our waistlines.

A new study from the University of California San Francisco showed that drinking sugary drinks is associated with cell aging, which in turn reduces longevity. The reason for this result comes down to tiny units of DNA called telomeres. The length and quality of telomeres, which cap the ends of chromosomes in cells, are a determining factor in lifespan—and it looks like a can of Pepsi with lunch will snip away at telomeres’ length at an alarming rate.

Grad Guest Post: Healthy Cooking with Super Food Cards

Greeting from two Integrative Nutrition graduates!  We’re Katherine Sumner, class of 2008, and Casey Seidenberg, class of 2009.

Upon graduation, we created Nourish Schools to help make healthy cooking easier for everyone. Through our company, we’ve consulted at schools and organizations, given talks across the East Coast, written a regular column in the Washington Post, worked with hundreds of individuals, and appeared on TV and radio.

Through our work, people told us again and again that healthy cooking is hard. Cookbooks are not user-friendly enough, the Internet is overwhelming, and who has the energy to cook after a long day at work?
