Institute for Integrative Nutrition
How long has Integrative Nutrition been around?
Since 1992, Integrative Nutrition has been at the forefront of holistic nutrition education, offering comprehensive cutting-edge training in health coaching.
Integrative Nutrition was founded by our director and primary teacher, Joshua Rosenthal. We have a strong, active community of more than 10,000 health coaches from over 60 countries.
What is IIN?
IIN – the Institute for Integrative Nutrition - has been training its students to become health coaches with a curriculum that is built around cutting-edge nutrition theories that are unique to Integrative Nutrition. These theories not only give our students the tools to work with clients but they also begin using them in their own lives and see incredible transformations for themselves.

Who is your student body?
Our community continues to grow with over 10,000 students and graduates, in 50 states and over 60 countries.
Our students come from diverse backgrounds including busy professionals, entrepreneurs, athletic professionals, medical practitioners, and stay-at-home moms. While the list keeps growing, they have one thing in common: the desire to improve the health and well-being of their families and communities.
We welcome all nationalities, cultures, religions, academic backgrounds and abilities.
Who teaches the classes?
About half of our program is taught by Joshua Rosenthal, the found and director of Integrative Nutrition. Classes are also taught by experts who are at the forefront of the health and wellness field. Our distinguished speakers are leading doctors, PhDs, researchers and authorities in nutrition today. The list includes Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr. Deepak Chopra, David Wolfe, Dr. Mark Hyman, Joy Bauer and many more.

What is Distance Learning?
Distance Learning allows students to experience the Integrative Nutrition curriculum and become a health coach from anywhere in the world. Students receive a customized iPod that is fully loaded with audio and video classes with top experts in nutrition and wellness. The program allows for maximum access and flexibility, so you can balance your education with your busy lifestyle.
No matter where you study, you’ll still feel connected to the Integrative Nutrition community through our Online Education Forum (OEF). Students use the OEF to discuss course topics and find support around health concerns, business building and client cases.

What is a health coach?
As a health coach, you will work with clients to customize a plan to upgrade their nutrition and overall well-being. You will help your clients develop a deeper understanding of the foods and lifestyle choices that work best for them and implement changes that improve their energy, balance and health. Instead of prescribing one diet or way of exercising, health coaches create recommendation to fit each client.

After graduation, what programs will I be trained to administer?
We will train you to administer a six-month coaching program, as a way of helping your clients create lasting change.
The six-month program is a guideline that can be altered to best suit the needs of your clients. We have many graduates who have altered the six-month program to work with specific types of clients. Many graduates choose to work with clients in group settings, for shorter and/or longer periods of time, or with different income levels. Working in a group meeting format also allows you to work with more clients in a shorter amount of time. This can be beneficial for someone who is interested in health coaching part time or has an already busy life.
What accreditation is available after completing the program?
As a graduate of our Professional Training Program, you will receive an IIN certificate in health coaching. You will also be eligible for a certificate and Continuing Educate Units (CEUs) from our affiliate, Purchase College of the State University of New York (SUNY) upon successful completion of our program.
In addition, you will be eligible to receive Board Certification as a holistic healthcare practitioner through the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, a private national certifying body. Please visit http://www.aadp.net/ for further details.

What is the difference between a health coach and a Registered Dietitian (RD)?
A health coach is a wellness authority and supportive mentor. They have a broad understanding of the principals of good nutrition and develop tools to apply them to daily life. Health coaches are trained to support clients with their health goals and empower them to make lasting changes in their behavior and lifestyle.
Registered Dieticians (RDs) receive a more scientific approach to nutritional training. For example, they are trained to administer nutrition in medical settings and analyze dietary intake. RDs play a different role than health coaches in the health and wellness of a client, and both play an increasingly significant role in the healthcare of the future.

We also offer two interactive, online manuals which are designed to demystify setting up your kitchen, buying the best tools, materials, and the highest quality foods. Basically, we've done all the leg work for you! There's something for everyone - from the beginner to the advanced cook. And the best part is, as the year goes on, you'll be able to read and learn from the reviews of staff, faculty, and other students.

How much personal attention will I get as a student?
Put simply, a lot! One of the defining aspects of our program is the amount of personal attention you will receive.
We are not like most schools where the staff and faculty don’t know your name (and where you rarely have time and space to ask questions and be heard). We take pride in supporting you so that you will get the most out of the Professional Training Program.
You’ll have a personal health coach throughout the program and access to staff, graduates and faculty 24/7 through our Online Education Forum (OEF). You will be amazed at how close and connected you will feel throughout the program.
Does this school have a religious affiliation?
We are not affiliated with any religion. One of the foundational elements of our curriculum is something we call primary food. Primary foods are elements that nourish us at a much deeper level than the food we actually eat, including spirituality.
For some, this may mean following the tenets of an organized religion. For others, it may mean taking a walk outside and reconnecting to nature. We support our students in finding an element of spirituality in their lives that works for them.

Is this a vegetarian/vegan approach to nutrition?
Integrative Nutrition offers a truly holistic approach; not just eating according to the most popular food theory at the moment, but noticing each person’s life as a whole. This unique approach to nutrition is what we call bio-individuality, which means we recognize that no one diet works for everyone. At Integrative Nutrition, students explore different ways of eating in order to create a personalized approach that is appropriate for the individual depending on their age, health, activity level, where they live, personal tastes and preferences.

Do you have any age requirements?
We don’t have any minimum age requirements. The age of our students ranges from 18 to 80+. It’s never too early or too late to enhance your knowledge.
