The gut, commonly known as the “second brain,” is connected to nearly every organ and system in the body.

You’ve probably been told to “listen to your gut” or “follow your gut instincts” – and for good reason. Your gut is usually trying to tell you when something is off.

From hormones and mood disorders, including anxiety and stress, to inflammation, allergies, and immunity, a compromised gut can wreak havoc on our everyday lives. In this course, you’ll receive a comprehensive overview of the digestive system, conditions that stem from the gut, common symptoms to look out for, and strategies to support your gut health through diet and lifestyle modifications. You’ll receive the healing tools you need to optimize your digestion, master your microbiome, and support overall well-being.

With this course, you’ll become the go-to gut guru.

What You'll Learn

Your Digestive System, Microbes, and the Microbiome

An imbalanced microbiome can lead to weight gain, inflammation, excessive hunger, high blood pressure, obesity, and more. Understanding what the microbiome is, how it functions, and how it impacts your digestive system as a whole are the building blocks of this course. We’ll provide you with an in-depth overview of these systems and how both good and bad bacteria make up the body’s microbiome.

The Gut-Brain Connection

The gut is your “second brain” because it’s in constant communication with the brain. The two are so intimately connected that your digestive issues can be the cause or result of anxiety, stress, and depression. You’ll dive deeper into how the gut-brain axis impacts your hormones, nervous system, inflammation, and mental health – and why you need to listen to your body when you have reoccurring issues, including, gas, bloating, constipation, acne, fatigue, and more.

Food Intolerances and Conditions of the Gut

There’s a lot of talk these days about allergies and intolerances, but do you actually know the difference between them? We’ll dive into ways food can irritate the gut – from basic food allergies to more serious conditions, like leaky gut, Crohn’s, celiac, IBS, and SIBO. You’ll also learn to recognize symptoms, warning signs, and when it’s time to work alongside healthcare practitioners to guide your clients (or yourself!) to better health.

Supporting Your Gut with Diet

From macro- and micronutrients to pre- and probiotics to supplements and fermented foods, diet is a major component of optimal gut health; you are what you eat. We'll explore foods that promote good bacteria and help contribute to a diverse microbiome. You’ll also understand the importance of bio-individuality in making food recommendations for those who have specific intolerances or conditions.

Supporting Your Gut with Lifestyle

When we think of things that are harmful to the gut, we tend to focus on the foods we eat. But did you know that one of the biggest killers of healthy gut bacteria is stress? You’ll understand how stress impacts your cortisol levels and digestive system and wreaks havoc on your body. We’ll also cover a variety of everyday toxins, including antibiotic use and pollution, and the healing tools you need to reduce inflammation and balance your gut.
