Wall Street Journal Reports on the Value of Health Coaches

Share this Article:

The world is in a health crisis. Today, more than one-third of American adults are overweight or obese. Worldwide, 347 million people have diabetes. By 2030, almost 25 million people will die from heart disease, which is predicted to remain the single leading cause of death. In the U.S. alone, $4 trillion will be spent on healthcare just this year - only 2% will go towards prevention.

If this makes you angry – it should. If it ignites your passion to take action – you’re in the right place.

At Integrative Nutrition, it’s our mission to improve the world’s health and happiness – one Health Coach at a time.

That’s why we were so excited to see a mainstream publication like the Wall Street Journal reporting on the value and effectiveness of health and wellness coaches!

In a recent article, they report that there is “a broader shift within the health-care industry toward keeping people well instead of simply treating them when they’re sick.” And that “although wellness coaching is a relatively new field, some recent research suggests that it does work—at least in the short term."

Of course, this may not be news to those who’ve been working as Health Coaches for many years. At Integrative Nutrition, we’ve known for some time that Health Coaches are the missing link in the current healthcare industry and will be the ones to pull us out of the current health crisis. However, it’s promising to see their value being acknowledged.

What’s most intriguing is the report goes on to share news of a Mayo Clinic study that found that “of 100 participants who worked with a wellness coach a majority had lost weight, improved nutritional habits and increased their physical activity by the end of the 12-week program.” Further proving the effectiveness coaches can have with their clients!

For the last 25 years, Integrative Nutrition has advanced a better way to health. We have established Health Coaching as a profession and made great strides in bringing awareness to our work. Every day we dedicate ourselves to strengthening the future of Health Coaches and expanding the movement – whether that’s through legislation in congress or inspiring our students and graduates to get out there and make a difference. We love seeing reports like this!
