Course Modules
Welcome to Chopra Yoga
You'll begin by taking a journey through the Vedic origins of yoga, and get to know a little more about the language of yoga. You'll learn an ancient blueprint for living a more harmonious, healthy, and joyful life, known as the 8 limbs of yoga. Then, you'll explore a few classic styles of yoga, and find out more about what makes Chopra Yoga unique.
Joyful, energetic body
Ultimately, our bodies are the vessels through which we see and experience the universe. When our bodies suffer, so do our minds, so it's important to operate that vessel from a space of joy and vitality. In Lesson 2, you'll learn what it means to have a joyful, energetic body through the three densities of energy known as the shariras, or Layers of Life. Sarah will guide you through yoga poses for cultivating a joyful, energetic body: Mountain pose, Blown Palm pose, Chair pose, Low Lunge pose, and Bound Angular pose. Finally, you will incorporate these into a sequence that you can add to your daily yoga practice.
Loving, compassionate heart
The heart is the bridge between the self and others. It's also the bridge between the body and the soul. Although we may be skilled at expressing compassion to others by listening without judgment, it can be difficult to extend that same generosity to ourselves. In Lesson 3, you'll cultivate a loving, compassionate heart by learning how to actively listen to your body's signals and get in tune with its inherent wisdom. You'll learn practices to help you understand the language of your breath as an extension of your heart so that you are guided by its intelligence. Lastly, you'll explore heart-opening postures such as the Cat Cow pose, Downward Facing Dog pose, Bridge pose, and Reclined Twist pose.
Reflective, alert mind
When we're too quick to act, we may make decisions that we regret, and when we're too slow to perceive, we may miss information that helps to support those decisions. That's why it's important to cultivate a mind that's both reflective and alert. In Lesson 4, you'll use your breath as a tool to steady and focus the mind. You'll be guided in depth through the Tree pose, Wide-Legged Forward Bend pose, Warrior 2 pose, and Child's pose. You'll then incorporate them into a sequence to help you integrate what you've learned so far into the present moment.
Lightness of being
In today’s society, it’s easy to get weighed down by the distractions of current events, physical health, social media, relationships, finances, or other stressors. The burden can feel very heavy at times. But at our true essence, we're all beings of light, love, and infinite possibilities. In Lesson 5, you'll go inward, surrender to yourself, and use visualization as a tool to connect with the greater cosmic nature of being. You'll embody a feeling of lightness and connection through the Sun Salutation, Reclined Pigeon pose, Waterfall pose, and Corpse pose. You'll learn a sequence that can help you move beyond everyday distractions and mental constructs to fully embrace your true, expansive nature.
