What led you to explore the Health Coach Training Program?
I lost my mother and grandmother to cancer at a very young age. I also dealt with severe cystic acne, depression, and digestive issues, which began my journey towards optimal health and wellness. It is my firm belief that with this information, their outcomes could have been significantly different. I have decided to shift my energy towards helping others so they do not have to go through the same struggles I had to.
What were you doing prior to enrolling at Integrative Nutrition?
I was working at a large accounting firm in Tampa, Florida. I was enjoying my work and the relationships I was building with my peers, but I always had a passion for health and wellness. After achieving an important milestone at the firm, I took a leap of faith and decided to leave my corporate job and pursue a career in the health and wellness industry. It has been an incredible experience so far.
Is there a need for Health Coaches where you live?
Yes, especially within the Hispanic demographic. As a Hispanic myself, I was born and raised on foods that are harmful to our health but culturally accepted. This was a difficult transition for me at the beginning, but I now share my story with others on how they can make these changes and not become the outcast.
How did your life change after enrolling?
After enrolling at IIN, I slowly began finding inner peace. By stepping away from my high paced, stressful corporate job I was able to tune into my true wants and desires in life. I am now in control of my own destiny and the success of my business ultimately falls on me.
Which topics and modules were most beneficial for you?
I truly enjoyed the modules related to raw foods, super foods, and balanced eating. There were many teachers who had an impact on me including Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Barry Sears, and also David Wolfe. Their passion and energy for health and wellness is contagious!
What are you doing now?
I am currently working as a bilingual (English/Spanish) professional athlete Health Coach in Windermere, Florida. My main focus is working with professional athletes who are seeking to increase their performance on the field through organic, whole food, plant-based, super food nutrition.
What makes you and your practice or product unique?
The focus on bio-individuality, which I learned at IIN. Many people have a specific focus on one particular diet or lifestyle, and what I have found is that does not work for everyone. We all have individual needs and desires for the life we are trying to create. My role is to simply share with others the benefits of healthy lifestyle living in a non-fanatical way.
What do you love about your work?
It does not feel like work. I wake up in the morning and am excited to begin the day. My advice to all those thinking about a new career is: do not be lured in by the money, the title, or the perks. Instead ask yourself, “What will I be doing day in and day out? Is this something that motivates me? Is this my passion?” By pursuing passion everything else seems to fall into place. As the saying goes, "Do what you love, and love what you do!"
