Health Coach Feature: How Chanel Swoope Empowers Women to Live Authentically

Chanel Swoope is a holistic nutrition and lifestyle coach based in the Los Angeles area. As an MPH graduate of Michigan State University and an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, Chanel is now empowering women to live authentically, hosting international wellness retreats, and educating her community on chronic disease prevention.

Q: What were you doing prior to enrolling at Integrative Nutrition?
A: Prior to becoming a Health Coach, I was an inspector in Las Vegas, Nevada, working on a cosmetology public health campaign for infection and sanitation control.

Q: What led you to explore the Health Coach Training Program?
A:
My mother was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and I became deeply interested in nutrition and the mind-body connection. I wanted to find a holistic cure and help other women across the world.

Q: How has your life changed since becoming a Health Coach?
A:
My life has changed drastically since becoming a full-time Health Coach. I feel a deeper connection with self and more fulfilled with my work.

Q: Which topics and modules were most beneficial for you?
A:
Bio-individuality, food politics, and how to use love as medicine by Bernie Siegel

Q: What does a typical day look like for you now?
A: A typical day is almost nonexistent in my world. With the exception of my morning routine, things are always changing. I wake up every day at 5am, drink water, go for my morning walk, read, make a smoothie, and write down goals for the day. After that, my workday officially starts, and it varies day to day. I have tasks that include anything from research, consultation calls, meetings, marketing, content creation, project development, etc. However, I typically coach clients on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

Q: What makes you and your practice unique?
A: My practice is unique because it’s customizable. I understand that there is not a one-size-fits-all approach in health and wellness. Every client has their own perceived difficulties, nutritional deficiencies, and set of goals they hope to accomplish. I offer that flexibility. I also host wellness retreats three times a year to personally coach and connect with women all across the world.

Q: How do you help your clients be successful?
A: I think the most important thing I help clients do is rediscover their autonomy. In life, we tend to get caught up in trivial things, labels, and layers set upon us – so much so that we forget we are in charge of our lives and well-being. As a Health Coach, I help them slowly unveil those layers, develop self-trust, and design a life that’s true for them.

Q: What do you love about your work?
A:
Helping women achieve transformative results! It is so fulfilling to hear their excitement from week to week and notice the change in their tone and perspective, compared to day 1. At the end of the program, my clients are more confident, healthier, and have a better sense of direction for their lives. I also learn a lot from coaching my clients, which helps me improve my life’s work.

Q: How have you seen the need for Health Coaches change over the years?
A: I’ve seen the need for Health Coaches change tremendously over the years. I think the world is getting more educated on the impact that mind-set and nutrition have on health, and they are simply looking for guidance.  Also, people aren’t just looking for quick fixes anymore, but everyday things they can implement to increase the quality of their life.

Q: What’s your tip for balancing your family, work, and personal wellness?
A: I don’t think there’s one specific way to balance your life. One thing that helped me was writing down my values and finding ways to consistently implement them in my lifestyle. However, things are always changing. My advice is to take heed when it does and allow yourself to adjust accordingly. For me, the goal is to achieve a state of flow, not balance.

Q: Tell us your favorite way to wake up each day!
A: My favorite way to wake up each morning is listening to high vibrational music. Anything that will get me dancing and energized to set the mood. I’ll also play motivational speaker Eric Thomas’s podcast when I need a little inspiration.
