Miranda Kerr, On Why She Became a Health Coach – and Why You Should, Too

Miranda Kerr’s interest in wellness is more than skin deep. When asked how she juggles it all, the international supermodel, IIN grad, CEO of Kora Organics, and mom of three says, “No two days are the same.” Since she grew up in a small country town in Australia, surrounded by organic produce, clean products, and nature, it’s no wonder that Kerr’s biggest passion in life is learning and expanding her knowledge of health and wellness.

This passion led her to pursue her health coaching certification at IIN in 2010, and she was inspired to create products that make a difference in skin-care routines and daily self-care. Despite her hectic days, there’s consistency in her daily wellness routine that provides an opportunity to tune in and be present.

Read on to see how she finds balance and incorporates her knowledge from IIN into everything that she does — and why she’ll never stop learning.

What led you to explore the Health Coach Training Program?

Health and wellness have been passions of mine from a young age. I grew up in a country town in Australia, eating organic produce. My grandparents had a farm with an organic vegetable patch. I spent most days at my grandparents’ farm, climbing trees and learning to cook. After finishing high school and before modeling full-time, I went on to study nutrition and health psychology at the Academy of Natural Living in Australia.

I was still looking to expand my knowledge of health and wellness. I heard about the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, so I decided to pursue being a certified Health Coach. I’m constantly reading books on health and wellness and how the mind, body, and spirit are all connected. There’s always so much to learn.

What do you love about your work?

The research and development behind each product is one of my favorite aspects of owning my own business, Kora Organics. Whenever I am creating a product, I already have envisioned exactly what I want it to be – the smell, the texture, the results. I obsess over every little detail. I feel so blessed to work with some of the best chemists in the world, who help bring my visions to life. We love seeking out new innovative ingredients and formulations to create products that push the boundaries in the certified-organic skin-care space and deliver visibly powerful and clinically active results.

Tell us your favorite way to wake up each day.

My favorite thing to do when I wake up is my 15-minute yoga/meditation. It helps me to set my intention for the day, so I start the day with a positive mindset. I've been using meditation as a powerful tool for more than 10 years now, and it really helps me a lot.

What does a typical day look like for you now?

I usually wake up around 5am on weekdays and 6am on the weekends. Currently, I love starting my day with my yoga stretch/meditation and then an online 45-minute power workout. I mix it up between Tracy Anderson and The Sculpt Society. They have great workouts I can do from the comfort of my bedroom.

After I’m done, I do a dry body brush, then jump in the shower and do my morning skin-care routine. I start with our Kora Organics Turmeric Glow Foaming Cleanser, followed by the Turmeric Brightening & Exfoliating 2-in-1 Mask as a face scrub. Then, when I'm out of the shower, I spritz my face with our Minty Mist – it’s so refreshing – and I follow with the Noni Bright Vitamin C Serum, which contains Kakadu plum, the highest source of naturally occurring vitamin C. This product has been a lifesaver for brightening my complexion! Then I apply our Active Algae Moisturizer all over my face, neck, and décolletage – it really keeps my skin glowing all day – followed by our Berry Bright Eye Cream. It’s super energizing, hydrating, and brightening and helps with fine lines, discoloration, under-eye bags, and puffiness, too. Then I apply the Noni Radiant Eye Oil and Noni Glow Face Oil for a little extra boost of nourishment.

Sometimes when I feel a bit puffy, I’ll give myself a gua sha massage with our Rose Quartz Heart Facial Sculptor. It helps stimulate circulation, reduce puffiness, and naturally lift and sculpt my face. For my body, when I’m in the shower, I start with our Renewing Body Wash, which is an incredible gentle cleanser that helps bind moisture to your skin even after rinsing. To scrub away dead skin and leave my skin feeling silky smooth and glowing, I use our Invigorating Body Scrub. I feel like a whole new person stepping out of the shower after using this combo! After I get out of the shower, I use the Nourishing Body Lotion, which leaves my skin feeling hydrated and strengthened. To lock all the moisture in, I use a layer of Noni Glow Body Oil all over my body. My skin’s never felt so soft!

Then, when the kids wake up, generally around 7am, I get them dressed and we all eat breakfast together. The first thing I drink is 32 ounces of filtered room-temperature water with the juice of one whole lemon, and then I have 32 ounces of celery juice. Once I drop the kids at school, I start work for the day. I try to make sure I wrap up by 5pm so I can be fully present to do their wind-down routine: bath, dinner, and reading together. Once the kids are all in bed, my husband, Evan, and I like to take some time for just the two of us. We catch up on each other’s day. Then, before bed, I’ll have a cup of chamomile tea and do a short meditation. This really helps me relax for a deeper sleep.

What’s your tip for balancing your family, work, and personal wellness?

It’s definitely a challenge, fitting everything in, as I’m sure most parents understand. No two days are the same, and it’s definitely a juggle, but I love it. I guess for me, the most important thing is making sure that I plan and schedule appropriately. I have a different color-coded calendar for everything, which helps me stay organized.
