Storing Food in Plastic Containers Unsafe

Nutrition is an emerging science, and two studies side by side can disprove each other. The latest news says that storing food in plastic containers is unsafe.

You may have experienced conflicting nutrition info yourself – what we call anecdotal research.

Do you have a friend who’s healthy and happy eating vegan, and another vegan friend who’s always sick? That’s a perfect example.

Here at IIN, we’re always on the cutting edge of nutrition information so that we can provide you with all the facts and allow you to make your own decisions based on our core concept of bio-individuality: One person’s food is another person’s poison, and no one diet – or lifestyle approach – works for everyone.

You’ve probably heard about possible health issues with plastic containers, especially when you use them to heat up food.

Breaking news just in today reports that food stored in plastic has led to hypertension, insulin resistance (which can lead to diabetes), and more.

The problem is the chemicals in plastic containers that make them strong and durable. There are people who will say this is a big problem, and others who will argue the opposite – like with all nutrition science.

When you store food in plastic, you’re taking a risk. It could lead to the following issues:

  1. Hypertension.
  2. Heart problems.
  3. Insulin resistance.
  4. Diabetes.
  5. Other metabolic disorders.

Pretty scary, right? It might be worth it to store your food in glass, even though it’s heavy and more breakable.

If you still want to use plastic, take the following precautions:

  1. Don’t put super hot leftovers directly into plastic – wait until they reach room temperature.
  2. Never heat food in plastic. Use a dish or heat it on the stove.
  3. Don’t cover hot food in plastic wrap.
  4. Don’t put plastic containers in the dishwasher.
  5. Avoid plastic containers with the numbers 3, 6, or 7 on the recycle emblem.

How do you feel about this new finding on plastic containers? Were you already aware of the existing issues with plastic? Will this affect how you store and heat up food? Share in the comments below – we can’t wait to hear from you.
