The IIN Community of Well BeIINgs: Dominique Barkhausen, on Evolving into the Best Version of Yourself

Name: Dominique Barkhausen

Location: Dominican Republic / Miami, Florida, United States

Instagram: @VITAHEALTHYANDFIT

Q: What inspired you to enroll at IIN?

A: Wellness has always been a big part of my life since college. I was inspired in Miami to go to many farmers’ markets, juice bars, and local gyms, and it helped me feel my best.

Q: How are you using your Health Coach Training Program education?

A: All the knowledge I learned years ago at IIN I still use to this day, personally and professionally. I use all this information in my coaching membership, with my clients at my store, and in the content I share on social media day after day.

Q: How did your understanding of spirituality expand upon taking the program?

A: I understood that wellness was more than just what we ate and that we needed to take a step back and also focus on our minds.

Q: Did IIN help you find a way of eating that works for you? If so, tell us more about that journey.

A: I’d say that IIN showed me all these ways of eating and then I got to decide what worked for me. Learning that we are all different (bio-individuality) was a game changer.

Q: How do you nourish yourself beyond your plate with primary food?

A: Taking time for myself is something very important for me, as is prioritizing time in my relationships with friends, my partner, and my family. I also work to keep my sleep and stress levels in order, and I take pauses and even breaks when I need to.

Q: How are you living a life you love? How did the program help you achieve this?

A: I’m 100% living the life I love. I’m passionate about my work, and all of this started with my big leap at IIN seven years ago.

Q: Health is not a destination; it’s an evolution and a journey. How does this resonate with you?

A: There’s no finish line. Once you start feeling good, you don’t want to look back, and day after day, you work toward becoming a better version of yourself. As humans, we evolve ‒ and it’s a beautiful journey to discover.

Q: If you could tell your pre-IIN self one thing, what would it be?

A: Just flow. Let things be, and everything will work out for a reason.

Q: What is your morning routine?

A: I usually wake up around 6:30am. I have my big cup of warm water with lemon or ginger. Before doing anything else, I sit for at least 10 minutes and meditate or journal or, if it's a great day, both. I then move ‒ movement, for me, is essential! Walking, yoga, training, whatever my body feels. After that, I eat breakfast and then get ready for a beautiful workday.

Q: What music do you play to get out of a funk?

A: I like it all. My music taste is all over the place. I love everything from hip-hop to jazz to any groovy, happy song.

Q: What’s your favorite on-the-go snack?

A: A cold-pressed juice from my store! I also love making a smoothie or having some toasted cashews or almonds.

Q: What’s one thing you can't run your business without?

A: My entire team. I owe my team my entire business ‒ and of course, my clients.

Q: We’re calling our IIN graduates and community members Well BeIINgs. How do you embody well-being?

A: I could write an entire list of things I do or practice to embody well-being, but to keep it short, I would say I focus on everything, inside and out. First my mind, my body, and my soul and then everything else.
