Lana Purcell, winner of our "What's Your Vision" Essay Contest brings us up to speed on her goals and progress as she works her way through the IIN Health Coach Training program.
What were you doing before IIN?
Before IIN I was a stay at home mum on a mission to change the world, I just didn't know exactly how.
What led you to explore IIN's program?
IIN came to me through Facebook. I read about it on someone’s blog, and I liked the page. I then went on the the IIN website and was BLOWN away that everything that I was doing, reading, researching seemed to be all be tied up with your program. I felt like I had found heaven. Having started and stopped numerous degrees, certificates, diplomas through the years because they didn't combine a truly holistic approach, my heart stopped as I knew this was something special.
What do you love about the school?
What I love about IIN? Well it has to be all the amazing, passionate and like minded people that I have been fortunate enough to connect to. These are my people. Fellow students have inspired me as much as the professionals in the lectures! I also love that IIN has made it so amazingly EASY to study such a fantastic program all from the comfort of your life and your situation.
How has studying with an international Health Coach Training Program benefited you?
I have been able to grab my iPod and throw the kids into the pram and learn as I walk. That is amazing. There is nothing like this here in Australia in regards to the “state of the art learning” or the holistic approach to health. Aussies are making more mistakes in life and food choices then ever before. Obesity rates are soaring and chronic disease is on the rise. We definitely need a movement of Health Coaches here in Australia.
What do you love about your work?
What I love is the amazing changes in people that we get to be a part of. With just a listening ear, and a caring heart people truly do “heal themselves” when they start to love themselves then everything is a possibility for them.
Tell us about your business.
I am in the process of setting up my business at the moment. I am very passionate about children's health and I know that getting the mothers on the right path themselves filters down to the children and everyone is happy. I have initially started a community group here in town called “ConsciousMums” - a group of young mothers that are passionate about learning new ways to live, feed, and experience life away from the commercial options. My dream to open a centre that is truly dedicated to the health and well being of the family units. A communal veg garden, health coaching, yoga, health store, cooking/workshop classes, a Naturopath and an Integrated doctor are all the things that I have on my “vision board.” Big Dream? Sure. We do only have one life. Whats that quote?
