IIN Advocacy Update: Tackle What’s Next

Share this Article:

Every month, we’re sharing the notable work that our director of advocacy and IIN graduate, Darrell Rogers, is doing in Washington, D.C., to increase the visibility and recognition of Health Coaches.

IIN Works with Former Professional Athletes

The transition from sport to what’s next can be isolating and challenging. Athletes may struggle with finding a new routine or their next passion. They grew up on a team, played with a team, and lived with a team, and the transition to life alone after that can be challenging.

Darrell recently moderated a panel of health advocates and former professional athletes with the NFL Players Association (NFLPA). They discussed the ins and outs of planning a healthy future – building habits to ensure good nutrition, a healthy lifestyle, and a vibrant, peaceful mind.

IIN is coaching former athletes to build healthier habits so they can transform into wellness champions and spread the message to their families, friends, and communities.

Nick Hardwick, a current IIN student and former professional football player (eleven seasons with the San Diego Chargers), recently said, “The negative consequences of playing in a combat sport like football could be mitigated, if not reversed altogether.…Feed yourself nourishing foods…which allows you to continue to exercise… that in turn helps us stay mentally vibrant. It’s a cycle of health, and it is continuous.…Life has so much to offer, and without health, none of it can be enjoyed.”

We know how valuable Health Coaches can be in the healthcare system to help bridge the gap between doctors and patients and provide the support and resources patients need to reach their health goals. IIN is committed to the success of every graduate making a difference in their communities, and this advocacy work aims to further support our graduates in all that they do.

Darrell Rogers began his career in Washington, D.C., twenty years ago and has worked for members of Congress and several notable nonprofit organizations and political campaigns. More recently, his work has been committed to protecting and promoting holistic healthcare access.
